In April of 2010 Pete Zucker was diagnosed with ALS, ALS is a progressive terminal disease. Once diagnosed, the typical lifespan
is 2-5 years. ALS affects all voluntary muscles, including the respiratory of which it will take away ones ability to breathe
which leads to death.
There is no cure, or treatment for ALS, and it is not a well known disease of which it gets very little funding for research. Many
people have heard of ALS, or Lou Gherig, but have no idea what it does. It is an awful disease. Pete, once an incredible athlete,
was completely paralyzed and could not speak or eat. Pete passed away in March of this year at an early age of 47 from ALS.
We wanted to do something, so we started The Pete Zucker Foundation, "For Pete's Sake". We are trying to raise money for research,
and build awareness of this devastaing disease. "For Pete's Sake" sweatshirts, t-shirts and socks are being worn all over our
community and beyond, supporting our cause. Pete's teamates from his local cycling team, now Kovarus, and triathlon club, Forward
Motion, continue to be there for support, raise money, and spread awareness through the athletic community of which Pete had once
been so active in.
